Brian W. Decker grew up in Hampton, Virginia and graduated from Phoebus High School in 1996. He then double majored at Old Dominion University, receiving Bachelor of Science degrees in Criminal Justice and Political Science, graduating summa cum laude in 2001. Brian began practicing law in 2004 after graduating cum laude from the University of Richmond, T.C. Williams School of Law. While at the University of Richmond, Brian served on the Journal of Law and Public Interest, was president of the Public Interest Law Association, served on the University’s Career Services Advisory Board and also was a member of the Client Counseling and Negotiation program.
Brian was in private practice in Newport News after graduation from law school until hired on as an Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney in Gloucester County where he prosecuted a variety of traffic and criminal matters, including DUI/DWI, manslaughter, rape, drug distribution and murder. In 2009, Brian joined the firm of Dusewicz & Soberick. In 2011, Brian became partner in the firm of Dusewicz, Soberick & Decker. In late 2018, Brian decided to follow his career long passion of owning and operating his own Law Firm. Hence, the creation of Decker Law, PLLC.
Brian’s practice focuses on traffic offenses, criminal (misdemeanor and felony), child custody/visitation and support, wills, real estate, personal injury, landlord/tenant, and many other areas. Brian is also counsel for the Mathews Department of Social Services, the Middlesex Department of Social Services and Assistant Commissioner of Accounts for Mathews County. Brian’s location of practice consists of Gloucester, Mathews, Middlesex, York County/Poquoson, Newport News, Hampton, King and Queen, King William, Williamsburg and New Kent.
Out of the courtroom, Brian has published articles on Jury Selection in the Commonwealth and Search and Seizure. He has served as president of the Middle Peninsula Bar Association and Vice Chairman of the Community Criminal Justice Board. He has also been a board member for the Child Fatality Review Team for the Eastern District of Virginia. He has lectured at events for safe teen driving throughout the Middle Peninsula and has been a guest lecturer at the Mid-Atlantic DUI Conference in Virginia Beach. In his spare time, Brian enjoys coaching baseball at Coastal Sports in York County. Brian also recently served as a board member for the Boys and Girls Club of Gloucester County and the Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society.
